Islamic Museum Tripoli

Tripoli’s jewel back to life

Lybia’s capital Islamic Museum stands in the al Sur area, in Shari’ Sidi Khaliffa, just a few kilometres south of the Medina.

Studio Italia Costruzioni is working on the complete renovation of the building. The original charm of the Museum has been maintained by laying a floor of ceramic tiles inspired by the original ones to create giant decorative rugs. The walls have been repainted and the top fascias decorated. The furniture, as well as the original doors and windows, has also been restored.

The original colours of the Ottoman Turk courtyard, which were recently hidden beneath layers of paint, will be brought back to life. The new floor with its fountain centre-piece, together with the surrounding blue and yellow-orange motifs, will create a breath-taking open-air room.

Attention has also been lavished on the outdoor areas, which include the small south courtyard with its beautiful stone-mosaic floor.

With the restoration of the interior and gardens, we wanted to highlight the bond that this Museum has always had with the landscape that surrounds it.
